define Claimant count

Define employed
those who do more than 1 hour of paid work a week, or are temporarily away from work (e.g holiday) , are on a government supported training scheme or do minimum 15 hours of unpaid work for their family business
Define unemployed
those of working age who are without work, able to start work in the next 2 weeks and have actively sought work for the last 4 weeks (ILO definiton)
Define economically inactive
those neither employed nor unemployed - those not participating in the job market. people of working age not seeking employment as well as those seeking employment but not being able to start work
What is the Labour Force Survey a sample of?
people living in households and is a legal requirement for every country in the EU
What does the Labour Force Survey ask questions about and why?
personal circumstances and activity in the labour market to class people as employed, unemployed or inactive
