Hook
The catchy part of the song - normally vocal
Riff
An ostinato played normally by a bass guitar or synthesisers. Unlike the hook it is often played throughout the song.
Bass line
the lowest part of a sequence of notes in a song
chord progression
any Chord that moves to any other chord
monophonic
one melody, only one instrument
homophonic
more than one sound at the same time
polyphonic
different sounds or voices that interweave in and out of each other
melody and accompaniment
som one who plays along the tune of the song and someon who plays along with it
imitation
when different instruments copy each other at different times
unison
the same tune at the same time

groups of notes(usually 3) that are played in the time of 2

call and response
two distinct phrases usually played by different musicians, where the second phrase is heard as a direct commentary on or response to the first.
