Q

Define modality

A

Modality refers to an expression of definitiveness in a statement which conveys a level of certainty. Modality should be identified as either high or low

An example of this is “I was shocked to my core: the most gruesome, bloody rancid scene stood before my eyes” This is a high modality

Another example of low modality is “I was not so sure of what I was feeling. This sensation, this sense of being lost. I was confused” This is low modality as the narrators voice is uncertain

The placement of Elated following by the pause draws our attention to the emotional state of the protagonist
