There was a division in Washington society. He felt sympathy because Peggy reminded Jackson of his first wife.

They feared that the government would abolish slavery

a result of southern states resistance to imposed, protective tariffs on foreign goods to guard emerging industries

How was the nullification crisis resolved?
Jackson advocated a reduction in tariff rates, and later on he declared the Nullification Proclamation that a state did not have the power to void a federal law.
Who were the five civilized tribes? Why did they have this name?
Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole, and Cherokee tribes. They were known as the 5 civilized tribes because they had largely adopted Anglo-American culture, speaking English and practicing Christianity.
