Poster
Goal: transmit a message in a direct way
Characteristics: usually uses colors, different fonts and visual resources
Types of poster: educational, ads, movies, motivational, etc.
Diary
Goal: expression of feelings and emotions
Characteristics: discuss thoughts, occurrences and personal things (use of 1st person); address the talk with the diary (dear diary)
Interview
Structure:
Title: Part of the interview that will draw attention from the public
Introduction: brief summary of the person that is going to be interviewed and how they relate to the topic
Q&A: Questions and answers (initials only after 1st Q&A)
Informal e-mail
Communication between family and friends
Structure:
Greeting
Introduction: explain the reason why you are contacting the person
Body: cover all the other topics
“Conclusion” and Sign off
RECALL STRUCTURES: Best wishes, Dear X, How are you doing? It’s been a while since we’ve caught up on life, etc.
GOOD TO USE IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS, SLANGS, ANYTHING INFORMAL!
Formal e-mail
The same as informal e-mail, but (wow) formal! Use: To whom it may concern, Dear X, etc)
Magazine Article
Headline: Catchy
Intro: Background information
Body: Covers the ideas of the intro
Evidence: All statements need support of quotes or data to make the test interesting and reliable
Conclusion: summarize everything
News report
Headline: Title, sums up the story
Byline: Name, specialty and date
Placeline: Where the story begins
Lead: Most important information
Body: More details and simple but true statements
Quotes: adds more accuracy and deepens the insertion of the reader
FORMAL, NO 1ST PERSON
Essay
Introduction: Context, problem and thesis
Body: Phrasal topic and evidences (3 paragraphs)
Conclusion: summarize everything, reestate thesis and annalize further possible investigations
Report
Use of sections and headings so that the information is easy to locate and follow
Clear subheadings for each section, group your ideas clearly and logically
Always include an introduction and conclusion
Be clear about the purpose of your report in the introduction and in the conclusion
Use an impersonal style and high register
Usually less discursive than in an essay, with a more direct and economic use of language
Avoid phrases such as “I think…”. Use it would seem… or it was felt/found…
Be concise and only include details which are strictly relevant
Speech
PPF, SCG, Quotes, Repetitions, rhetorical questions
Blog
Personal, 1st person; indicate that you are talking to an audience (Hi, welcome to my blog, thanks for reading, leave a comment, follow on social media, etc)
Opinion article
Title: Catchy and interesting
Introduction: Context for the article, author’s opinion
Background: additional information
Main argument: Evidence for the author’s opinion
Counterargument: Opposing views, explain why they are wrong (according to the authors POV)
Call to action and closing statement
