What are empresarios?
People who help to recruit and bring settlers in to an area.
Who was Stephen F Austin?
He was the first empresario and he was known as the Father of Texas.
Who were the old three hundred?
They were the first 300 families to settle in Texas.
What were the garantees in Iturbide’s Plan de Iguala?
To declare Mexico inependent from Spain, Mexicans would all have equal rights, and Cathlicism would be the main religion of Mexico.
What was the constitution of 1824 and how did it effect Texas?
It said thet you could elect people, the offical religion was Cathlisism, and they created states and Texas was in the state called Coahuila y Texas.
What was the natural ground?
It was a chunk of land that neither Spain nor the US owned and it became problimadic because outlaws and law breakers fled there.
What was the Adams-Onis treaty?
It states that the US get the Sabine River as the new boundry of Texas and the Us gets Florida, and in exchange Texas promises Spain not to mess with Texas.
Who was Jose Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara?
He traveled to the US to get help freeing Texas from Spanish rule. He and Augustus Magee created the Republican Army of the North.
What was the Battle of Medina and what was the result of the battle?
It was the bloodiest battle in Texas history. Everyone in the Republic army was killed and because of this, Texas was under Spanish rule for another 7 years.
What was the Louisiana Purchase?
In 1803, the US purchesed the Louisiana territory from France for $15 million. US now shared a border with Texas and the US doubled in size.
Who was Bernardo de Galvez?
He was a spanish military govener who aided the Americans in the war effort.
Where did Stephen F Austin pick for his colony?
He picked a place between th eColorodo and Brazos Rivers, because they had a good water supply and had great soil for farming.
Why did Moses Austin belive people would want to move to Texas?
Because the land was cheap.
Why is the yeatr 1821 so important in Texas history?
That’s when Mexico gained it’s independence from Spain.
