FLAME TEST
- Put platinum wire loop in hcl and then in hold under a flame until it burns with no colour.
- put in substance- flame- CRIMSON-RED

Copper2 cu2+
COLOURED PRECIPITATE WITH NAOH.
- many metal hydroxides are insoluble and precipitate out of solution when formed
- Add NaOH a coloured insoluble hydroxide forms- BLUE
- cu2+(aq) + 2OH- (aq)= cu(OH)2 (s)
Iron 2 fe2+
COLOURED PRECIPITATE WITH NAOH.
- many metal hydroxides are insoluble and precipitate out of solution when formed
- Add NaOH a coloured insoluble hydroxide forms- SLUDGY GREEN
- Fe2+(aq) + 2OH- (aq)= Fe(OH)2 (s)
Iron 3 Fe 3+
COLOURED PRECIPITATE WITH NAOH.

- Add NaOH a coloured insoluble hydroxide forms- REDDISH BROWN
- Fe3+(aq) + 3OH- (aq)= Fe(OH)3 (s)
Ammonium inos NH4 +
ADD NAOH
- add it to a test tube of compound
- DAMP RED litmus paper will turn BLUE as ammonia gas is given off.
Carbonates co3 2-
ADD HCL and CARBON DIOXIDE will be released- test with lime water
2. CO3 2-+ 2H+= CO2 +H20
Sulfates so4 2-
ADD HCL AND BARIUM CHLORIDE
- add HCL to remove any traces of carbonates of sulfite ions
- then add barium chloride- a WHITE PRECIPITATE will form
- BA 2+ + SO4 2-= BaSO4

add NITRIC ACID and SILVER NITRATE

Bromide ions
add NITRIC ACID and SILVER NITRATE
1. AG+ + Br- =agbr - A CREAM PRECIPITATE OF SILVER BROMIDE
iodide ions
add NITRIC ACID and SILVER NITRATE
1. AG+ + I- =agI - A YELLOW PRECIPITATE OF SILVER IODIDE
