TESTS Flashcards
Identify and explain how concrete can be tested for workability
slump test: a sample of concrete is compacted in an open ended metal cone, the cone is lifted off and the slump is measured to determine workability
Identify and outline a hardness test
Rockwell Test: A diamond, carbide or hardened indenter on the surface of a material is loaded for a specific time. The hardness is determined by the depth
(suitable for carbon steels)
Identify and outline an impact test (destructive)
Tension Test (Destructive): Sample is placed in a tensiometer until tensile failure occurs and load/extension graph is plotted. This graph would be compared to a standard for the material to gauge its suitability.
