6
Q

How should preferential looking be performed?

A

Examiner shouldn’t know where the grating is - look through peephole to estimate response/present at eye level
If correct twice: assume they can see grating
Acuity = finest grating with repeatable positive result

A

3m (scored as 6m)
Snellen

18
Q

When can you use Keeler LogMAR/Glasgow Acuity cards or the Kay Letter test?

A

When children know letters

19
Q

When can you use the Snellen/Bailey-Lovie chart?

A

When children are confident with letters

20
Q

What are some good methods to make sure children don’t get bored when measuring VA?

A

Occlude alternatively - allows binocular viewing between each presentation
Read half the line
Use frosted occluder - not as scary
Do CT at same time
Always end on a good note

21
Q

What should you record for VA?

A

Test used
Distance
How well px responded
Which eye was tested first/if alternative occlusion used
Any relevant observations

22
Q

What other methods are there for testing visual acuity?

A

Bradford Functional Vision Box
Hundreds and Thousands

23
Q

If a child objects to occlusion what does that mean? What age does it normally happen from?

A

Better vision in the eye you’re trying to cover
3 months+

24
Q

What are some ways of measuring near VA in children?

A

Reading books (e.g. Keeler)
Maclure (corresponds to American School Grades)
Kay Pictures Near

25
What are the methods of measuring stereopsis?
Frisby Lang I & II Stereo fly test (avoid in SA due to glasses and confusing test) TNO (glasses)
26
How can contrast sensitivity be measured? What is the testing distance for each test?
Pelli-Robson - 1m Cardiff Contrast Test - 50cm or 1m Universal Contrast Test Hiding Heidi
27
How should you adapt motility for a child?
Don't tell them off if they move their head Try not to say 'no', or 'follow' Ask parents to hold the child's head Use an interesting target
28
How can you measure binocular status for a child?
CT Hirschberg 20^ BO test
29
How many prism dioptres is 1mm of displacement on Hirschberg?
22^
30
How can you measure colour vision for a child?
Ishihara CVTME City CV test Mollon-Reffin
31
How can you measure visual fields for a child?
Confrontation techniques
