- Place a leaf in a beaker with water and boil for 5 mins.

- Remove the leaf, place the leaf in a test tube and cover with Ethanol.

- Turn off Bunsen burners, ethanol is highly flammable.

- Place the test tube back into the beaker and allow it to boil for 5 minutes. (Using the already hot water)

- Remove the leaf from the ethanol and place on a white tile.

- Cover the leaf with Iodine

- Observe the color changes.

What will happen if there is starch
A
The leaf will turn blackish-blue because the plant has been Photosynthesising and creating starch. Iodine is a test for starch so if there is starch in the leaf the Iodine will stain it.
