Test Two (Persia, Egypt, Hebrews, Mesopotamia) Flashcards
Hebrews
The Hebrews had the Covenant Code and the Ten Commandments which dictated their ways of life. Adam and Eve were God’s first people and as such play a heavy role in why the Hebrews believed things happened. Noah was their savior when God decided to destory the world and Moses was their prophet who brought the Ten Commandments and Covenant Code to them. Yahweh was their god and the Israelites were their chosen people.
Persia
The Persian religion was Zoroastrianism. It was a dualistic religion consiting of Ahura Mazda (the good god) and Angra Mainyu (the god of the underoworld). The Persians, much like Christians, believed that if they were good they would live in eternal peace and if not, they would live in eternal agony. Also, they believed there would be a day of reckoning in which good and evil faced off in a final battle that would result in good winning and time ending. The Persian empire had Satrapies which were governed by Satraps.
Egyptians
The Egyptians’ god was Re. He created everything including the other gods. The Egyptians believed that once they died Osiris judged them and decided whether or not they would become part of the underworld. The Egyptian destruction myth consists of a band of citizens plotting to overthrow Re and so, Re uses the Eye of Re to kill everyone however, he feels remorsful and then helps the Egyptians save themselves by intoxicating the Goddess. When being judged, the Egyptians performed the Negative Confession in which they said everything they had not done. The Egyptian kings were called Pharoahs.
