Test Two Flashcards
Describe the motion of the sacrum during the extension phase of cranio-sacral motion
In extension the sacrum moves back and down - the apex moves posteriorly
Describe in detail the Dural attachments to the sacrum and coccyx
The dura Mater terminates within sacral canal - attaches to anterior wall of S2
The filum continues to attach to The coccyx at the posterior surface
With a hand under the sacrum how might you stimulate the cranio-sacral system?
By projecting your attention through spine and observe the patterns of stillness and release
Sacrum will respond following I to patterns of asymmetry
In taking up a double contact with one hand under the sacrum and the other hand somewhere under the vertebral column what do you consider to be the function of the
A. The sacral hand
B. The hand under the spine
C. The combined effect of the two hands together
A. Source of harnessing the flow of vitality
B. Target area where therapeutic forces can be directed
C. To create a channel for the flow of vitality between two points
How does the Sphenoid-Basilar Synchondrosis differ anatomically from most other joints in the skull?
SBS is a cartilaginous joint whereas most of the joints are sutures
How does this anatomical difference of the SBS effects it’s function?
The SBS is more mobile than any joints in the cranium and moves more freely than sutures
Why is this function difference considered to be significant in CST?
It’s increased mobility and it’s central pivotal position makes it more easily affected by any imbalance, patterns of strain, tensions etc in the system
SBS provides a window through which we can readily read everything going on in the system
Describe a left side bending pattern of SBS in terms of how it feels
Bulges to the left side of the head with the other side seeming to cave in
There is a gap between sphenoid body and Basilar Occiput on the left side of the SBS with a narrowing on the right side
Describe a left side bending pattern of the SBS in terms of what is happening
There is a gap between the sphenoid body and the basi Occiput on the left side with a corresponding narrowing on the right side
Describe the right side torsion pattern of the SBS in terms of how it feels
With the thumbs on the top of the greater wing of the sphenoid right thumb twists towards the top of the head superiorly while the left thumb twists inferiorly towards the feet
Give the name and root origin of the peripheral nerve associated with carpal tunnel syndrome

What movement is felt in the feet during expansion and contraction phase of CST motion?
Feet externally rotate out during expansion and internally rl in during contraction
What is meant by Tissue Memory?
Tissues can hold physical and emotional patterns of trauma and stress even if original source has been removed
When tensions are released memories associated with the incident may be released
For what condition might you use fascial unwinding.
It may start spontaneously during a treatment
A practitioner may be drawn to an area which needs unwinding
The nature of the illness or symptoms
Can be part of an integrated treatment
