Patriarchy
A system of society or the government in which men hold the power and women are largely ignored/excluded from it
Gender Queer
A person who does not subscribe to conventional gender distinctions but identifies with neither, both, or a combination of male/female genders
Heteronormative
Relating to a world view that promotes heterosexuality are the normal or preferred sexual orientation

An individual’s persona sense of having a particular gender
Judith Butler
A gender theorist who emphasizes choice and fluidity in a persons gender and uses the term performativity to describe gender as a performance
Gender Binaries
A system of gender classification in which all people are categorized as being either male or female
Transgender
Relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex
Intersectionality
The understanding of how women’s overlapping identities impact the way they experience oppression and discrimination

Believed in utilitarianism and argued for women’s equality. Presented a petition with 1500 signatures for Women’s Suffrage.
Harriet Taylor
Strongly advocated that woman should have access to the same jobs as men and that they should not have to live in ‘separate spheres’

Written by Simone de Beauvoir where she asserted that women are as capable of choice as men and can reach ‘transcendence’ by choosing freedom
