Running record
You record whatever behaviours are being demonstrated. You are not focusing on a specific behaviour.
What are key features of a running record?
- focus on one child at a time
- open ended
- non participatory
- written account recorded at time of observations
- detailed, record most actions
- records all speech

- as objective as possible
Event sampling
Method of observation that records occurrences of behaviours called “events” or “target behaviours” examples of a selected category of behaviour.
Anecdotal records
Although it is open to subjectivity it is used because of its focused efficiency
what does Abc stand for?
Antecedent event - the “happening” just before the behaviour example
Behaviour - the example of the category of the behaviour you are looking for
Consequent behaviour - the effect, consequence, or event that occurs after the example given
Operational definition
Clear explanation of the behaviour to be recorded
Time sampling
A method of observing and recording elected behaviours during previously set intervals
