Test-Motion and Newton's Laws of Motion Flashcards
1st Law
An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
2nd law
Force=mass times acceleration. F=ma
3rd law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Inertia
Is the tendency of objects to remain in motion or to stay at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.
Force
- push or pull
- you exert a force when you push or pull an object
- Force=mass x acceleration
Unbalanced forces
- result in no motion
- unequal forces acting on each other in opposite directions
Motion
- an object is in motion when it’s distance from another object is changing
- whether an object is moving or not depends on your P.O.V
Speed
- the distance an object travels in one unit of time
- Speed=distance/time
- unit=meters per second
- average speed=total distance/total time
Acceleration
- the rate at which velocity changes
- increasing speed, decreasing speed or changing direction
- Acceleration=final velocity(v2)-initial velocity(v1)/time
Velocity
-Velocity=speed+direction Ex: 150 mph west
Every action has an______ and________reaction
Equal and opposite
The greater the mass,the__________amount of force needed.
Greater
Everyone knows that heavier objects require_______force to move the same distance as_____________objects.
More and lighter
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
Velocity=speed+direction
Speed is distance traveled in an amount of time NO matter the direction
