Test-Matter Flashcards
4.What is a physical property
A property that can be observed directly or measured without changing the chemical identity of the substance
Concept 2 notes:properties of Matter pg8
16.What does increasing the surface area of a solid do
Increasing the surface area of a solid increases the speed of dissolving
C3
- in which phase of Matter are molecules of the substance farthest apart from each other
They are furthest apart in liquids
C3: states of Matter pg 27
23.which term best describes when particles escape from the surface of a liquid and become gaseous
Evaporation
C3 states of Matter
26.particles in liquid are usually what compared to the energy in gas
They are usually closer together and lower in energy than in gas
C3 states of Matter pg 27
32.What is a heterogeneous mixture
Heterogeneous mixtures are unevenly distributed mixtures
U1 c2
- What is a chemical change
A change in a substance that affects its chemical reaction occurs and a new substance is formed
C2 properties of Matter pg10
- Why is KBr supersaturated
It is saturated at 10° around 60g so anything above would be supersaturated
C4 solutions pg 32
- Why is KNO 3 undersaturated
KNO 3 is saturated at 40° at around 78g so anything below is undersaturated
C4 solutions pg 32
- Iron and oxygen react to form rust. What will happen to the mass of the rust compared to the rust of the iron and oxygen before the reaction
It will be the same becuase the law of conservation of mass states mass is not created nor created during a chemical change
Conservation of matter lab
- How do stirring the solution , heating the solvent and a smaller solute size speed the process dissolving rate of a substance
Stirring the solution moves them around
Heating the solution causes them to move faster
Smaller solute size is just less to dissolve
C4 pg33
