put the leaf into boiling water to denature the enzymes present in the leaf

put the boiled leaf in a boiling tube containing 3cm3 of ethanol to decolourise the leaf. Place the boiling tube in a water bath of 50.c for 10 minutes
MAKE SURE TO NOT DIRECTLY HEAT THE BOILING TUBE CONTAINING THE ETHANOL BC ETHANOL IS VERY FLAMMABLE

after 10 min, remove the leaf and place it back into the water bath and swish it around to soften the leaf and make it more permeable to iodine

after about 1 min take it out and spread it evenly into a whit tile. add 2-3 drops of iodine
