1: the water problem: after the flood receded everything dried out
2: the defense problem: they had no natural boundaries
3: resource problem: Natural resources in Sumer were rare like stone or wood

Water prob: they learned to dig ditches to allow water to flow their fields
Defense prob: they built large walls with mud bricks but the problem with that is it’s not so effective for a while
Resource prob: they created a trading network
What’s bartering?
They had crops which is what everyone wanted so they traded that for cloth, stone etc
The problem with that is that it was difficult because they didn’t have a good way to make sure it’s a fare monetary trade.
