Test - Digestive System Flashcards
- What is something which is not a a nutrient?
Enzymes
NB74
- What makes up half the different proteins in your body?
Amino acids
NB74
- Where does bacteria make vitamin K?
Large Intestines
NB72
- What type of digestion is it in the process of breakdown of complex food molecules into simpler ones?
Chemical
NB76
- What is the process when food is pushed through the esophagus to the stomach by the waves of the muscle contraction known as absorption?
Peristalsis
NB72
- What are Villi?
Nutrients molecules that pass into cells on the surface of a villus and from there into blood vessels. The villi provide a large surface area for absorption.
NB75
- Could the duodenum function without the pancreas?
No because with out the enzymes, chemical digestion could not be completed, so the duodenum (small intestines), would be unable to absorb small nutrient molecules into the blood stream.
NB72
- What is the name of the organ in which foo is absorbed?
Small intestines
NB72
- Explain how the mouth helps to digest food.
Mechanical digestion - Incisors cut and tear and Canines cut foo into smaller pieces. The molars crush and grind food. Chemical digestion - Saliva contains an enzyme salivary amylase that chemically breaks done starches into smaller molecules called maltose. The younger mixes and positions the food for swallowing.
