Burnt homes to the ground, killed villagers and animals and destroying tools and food supplies.
How did people suffer during the harrying of the north
Starvation, burning alive, cannibalism, ate horses dogs and cats, lost their homes, became slaves to stay alive
Why did William build castles in England
Control( castles would provide permanent bases for William’s soldiers across the country)
Defence ( castles would provide William’s soldiers with shelter if attacked )
Intimidation ( castles would be an indication of how strong William was )
Explain the feudal system
The feudal system was an easy way for william to control the country
it went like this
The King gave Barron’s land in return for knights and men for the King
The Barron gives land to the knight in return the knight fights for the Barron and provides men
The knight gives peasants land and protection in return he must fight for the King and work on his land
When did the domesday survey take place
1085-1086
What was the main reason for the doomsday survey
The main reason was to find out what people owned so the King knew how much to charge tax
What language was used to write out the feudal system
Latin was used but some vernacular words were inserted
