Define political spectrum
A body which encompasses all realms of political thought.
Define left
The radical or alternative which includes communists, socialists and anarchists.
Define right
The capitalistic, conservative side of politics which features conservatives, fascists and liberals.
Define centre
A soft liberal view that wants basic living standards but they should be balanced with individual and economic freedom.
Define anarchism
A belief that there be no government or state and that natural law governs the land. Ex French Revolution
What is an ideology?
An ideology is a coherent set of attitudes and beliefs concerning political life.
Define communism
A social system where means of production are owned and shared by all of society. Ex Venezuela
Define socialism
A co-operative societies which shares its resources and is based on Karl Marx theory. Ex USSR
Define liberalism
System where individuals freedom and economic equity are of equal importance. Ex USA
Define conservatism
To maintain society rather than change it. Ex Howard
Define Fundamentalism
A government that gases itself on strict religious law. Ex Iran
Define free market
An economy where the government does not interfere and trade is controlled by private hands.
Define capitalism
The economic theory of increasing ones capital through competitive economic practices.
Define fascism
A government that holds extreme views and beliefs and often led by a dictator. Ex nazi germany. On far right of political spectrum.
What are the two principles capitalism employs
- Laissez faire economics (let them do) government intervention.
- Self-interest( that individuals will compete against each other and will be motivated to succeed by their own interests.
What are the positives of capatilism
Individual excellence is rewarded.
Competition provides motivation and progression.
Private enterprise and ownership.
Negatives of capatilism
Class system. Enforces inequity Poverty No accountability Doesn't protect people
Who was Milton Friedman?
Stripped backgrounds and emphasised privatisation of government industries and businesses
Define primitive communism
This is how humans first lived, in small tribes where everything was shared amongst the tribe- food, jobs, belongings no one owned land.
Feudalism-capitalism
The business owners or capitalists get richer while the workers do all the hard work. The capitalists get more power to serve their own interests. Capitalism creates a huge working class of people who soon get angry at the way they are treated. They organise in unions and demand changes. This will lead to revolution and socialism.
Capitalism-socialism
In the socialist revolution all the rulers kings churches and capitalists are rid of. The workers take control of the country to produce things from everyone. Nothing is made for profit all people benefit from education and health.
Primitive communism-feudalism
Under a feudalism a king or emperor rules all people. People are kept uneducated and told that the king was chosen to rule. Gives land and privileges to nobles who rule the people for him.
Socialism-communism
Renaming capitalists put up a bitter fight. As everyone now works together war is of the last and everything is provided by the people. All human activities is made to benefit each other.
Define modern socialism
Arrived during the industrial revolution, rose out of the newly formed working class and favoured many early trade unions who’s members failed to see profit from their own labour.
