Test Flashcards
Apex of heart
Base of heart
Apex: Left 5th intercostal, midclavicular
Base: Just below sternal angle
Aortic area
Right 2nd intercostal
Pulmonic area
Left 2nd intercostal
Surface projection of right ventricle
Behind and left of sternum, inferior border just below the junction of the sternum and xiphoid process.
RV narrows and meets pulmonary artery at left 3rd ICS near sternum
4 factors affecting arterial blood pressure
LV stroke volume
Total blood volume
Distensibility of aorta and large arteries
Peripheral vascular resistance
BP cuff
Width should be 40% of patient arm’s circumference
Bladder should be 80%
Maximal height of JVP
Corresponds to right atrial pressure (reflecting hydration or volume status of patient)
Palpate 4 areas in precordium
Apex
Left parasternal area (left 3rd - 5th ICS)
Left 2nd ICS
Right 2nd ICS
Location to best hear S2 splitting
Left 2nd intercostal
Thoracic/lumbar motion
Flexion, extension, rotation, side bending
Hip range of motion
Flexion, extension, abduction, adduction
Internal rotation - named based on location of knee
Greater trochanter of femur
Raised, rounded bony point
Trochanteric bursa
Lies superficial to greater trochanter
ASIS, PSIS, SI joint
ASIS: sharp notch along iliac crest
PSIS: “dimples” on lower back
SI joint: find PSIS and iliac crest. Go 2.5 cm lateral from PSIS (center of joint). About 2 cm along iliac crest from there
Tibiofemoral joint motion
Flexion, extension
