Q

Difference between periopocket and gingival pocket

A
  • Period pocket is caused by a disease or degeneration and involve deeper structures such as the PDL, Cementum, and the bone. Tooth wall is cementum and Perio pockets may be Suprabony or infrabony
  • gingival pocket is caused by gingival enlargement. Deeper structures aren’t involved, the tooth wall is enamel and all of them are suprabony

16
Q

Edge to edge

A

When the max. And mand. Incisal surfaces occlude (touch)

17
Q

End to end

A

When the molars and premolars occlude cusp to cusp as viewed mesiodistally

18
Q

Open bite

A

When teeth that are supposed to contact each other don’t. They can’t be brought together

19
Q

Overjet

A

When the Maxillary teeth protrude. Measure distance with probe from lingual incisal surface of max. To labial surface of mand.

20
Q

Underjet (opposite of overjet)

A

Mandibular teeth protrude outward. Measure with probe from labioincisal of max. I linguoincisal surface of mand. Incisors

21
Q

Over bite

A

Normal- incisal edge of max. Teeth are w/ incisal 3rd of mand. Teeth
Moderate- incisal edges of Max. Teeth are w/ middle 3rd of mand. Teeth
Severe-incisal edges of max. Teeth are w/ cervical 3rd of mand. Teeth

22
Q

Calculus is composed of:

A

Organic and inorganic and water

23
Q

Inorganic

A
  • calcium
  • phosphate
  • carbonate
  • sodium
  • magnesium
  • potassium
24
Q

Organic

A
  • non vital microorganisms
  • epithelial cells
  • leukocytes
  • Mucin from saliva
25
Q

Stages of perio lesions

A
  1. Initial
  2. Early
  3. Established
  4. Advanced
26
Q

Initial stage

A

Occurs within 2-4 days of irritation

  • no clinical evidence of chance
  • slight gingival redness w/ enlargement
27
Q

Early stage (stage 2)

A

Biofilm older and thicker (7-14 days)

28
Q

Established stage

A

Fluid and leukocytes migrate into tissue and the sulcus increases forming pocket

  • inflammation/redness is obvious
  • bleeding with probing
  • spongy marginal gingiva
29
Q

Advanced stage

A

Bacteria from supragingival enter sulcus..leads to alveolar bone destruction
-CT fibers below JE are destroyed
