What are the different types of oversight? Give an example.
Police patrol - they don’t do this
Fire alarm - basically a big red flag that needs to be checked on
Ex: bimbo says that trump raped her at 7.
What is Constituency Service?
Delegate - you are the delegate and you are representing your district
Trustee - the district trusts you to do the right thing for the district.
Politico - playing the district to get voted
Who is the head of the House of Representatives and the Senate?
Speaker of the House - elected by entire house
Senate Majority leader - elected by Majority Party
What are some Presidential powers?
Executive branch - appoints all agency heads, he can do Executive Orders
Legislative - He can Veto a bill, he has a pocket veto, passes the budget
Military - he’s the commander in Chief, runs the Military Ops
Judicial - He appoints judges, and can pardon people.
Diplomatic - Form treaties, recognize other countries

Who can influence the Bureaucracy?
Executive branch (President)
Legislative (they fund all bureaucracies)
Interest groups (always torn down by the media)
Bureaucracy itself (very protective and have a high degree of expertise)
What is the job of the Judiciary?
Fix the common law if there’s no legislative action
Interpret legislation
Interpret the constitution
Can be either strict or loose
(strict means the rules are based off the condition)
(Loose means the rules are based off personal or political considerations)
Tasks of a Political Party
Interest Aggregation - gets people together with no common interest except they want to win
Recruit candidates
Conduct campaigns
Provide policies
Provide alternative policies
Serve as basis of govt
Increase participation
Keep the system responsive
Why is America a Two-party system?
Winner take all
Major parties steal ideas
State parties write election rules
Takes a lot of money and people!
What are the different Laws in the Judicial Branch?
Common law (oldest)
Statutory law (written by states)
Equity law (when there’s no common or statutory law)
Constitutional law (mother of all laws)
What are pros and cons of regulations?
Pros: safe (everything is safe), Monopoly (city can regulate monopolies), Externality (they regulate them)
Cons: Cost (may cost prices to go up like gas), Uncertainty (when the pres goes from Repub to demo and they want something different), Innovation (tons of regulations to go through)
