Test 3 Flashcards
Motor unit
Motor neurons and muscle fibers it innervates, elementary functional unity in the motor system
Paralysis and loss of pain, temperature, and touch but prioception is still there
Anterior Cord Syndrome
Cauda Equina
Peripheral nerve injury, below L2 flaccid paralysis but prognosis is better
Myotonic muscular dystrophy
Causes weakness and muscle spasms (myotonia), relaxing is hard, limb weakness and affects stomach, vision, heart, and lungs.
Treatment for TBI
Minimize effects of injury and prevention secondary damage, stabilization, shock/respiratory arrest, nutrition, continence
Limb Girdle Dystrophy
Affects muscles around shoulders and hips, causing weakness and wasting
Muscular dystrophy (MD)
Progressive degenerative disease with generalized weakness but sensation stays intact
Anterior cord syndrome
Paralysis and loss of pain, temperature and touch but PROPRIOCEPTION is there
Conus medullaris
Affects the sacrum and lumbar spinal area resulting in areflex of bladder, bowel movements and LE.
Dermatomes
Nerve roots that exist from the spinal cord shows a specific area of sensory distribution
