Test (2.19.16) Flashcards
Refutation Arguments Against Theistic Evolution
- Evolution says that all life began in the ocean while Genesis teaches that life began on land.
- The order of events in evolutionary theory differs from that presented in the Genesis account.
- Theistic evolution assumes the Genesis account to be allegorical and/or poetic with no reason to do so (proper Hermeneutics)
- Derivation of man from a non-human ancestor cannot be reconciled with Genesis 1:26, 27, and Genesis 2:7.
- Evolution teaches that the development of fish and birds are separated by hundreds of millions of years while Genesis says they were created together.
- Evolution assumes a concurrent evolution of man and woman while Genesis teaches that woman was created from man’s side.
- Evolution is seen as an ongoing process over several millenia, even possibly continuing today, while Genesis 2:1 and 2:2 state that God is finished at the close of the creation week.
Refutation Arguments for Day Age Theory
- Hebrew grammar – olam is the term most commonly used in Hebrew to indicate a long period of time; yom most commonly is used to refer to a common day period.
- The use of a numerical adjective with yom always refers to a common day (first, second, etc).
- The phrase “evening and morning” is strongly indicative of a common day.
- If man has been on Earth for 1 million years, the Geneologies in Genesis 5 and 11 would require a 50,000 year gap between each name.
- If life has been on earth for 1 billion years, then each day of creation would have to represent 125 million years.
- According to Genesis, plants were on the 3rd day and the sun on the 4th making anything but a common day impossible.
- The use of 2 Peter 3:8 as support is a classic illustration of proof-texting
- The pattern of Exodus 20:9-11 9 (Sabbath) is ludicrous unless the days of creation are common days.
Ways Man is Made in the Image of God

God is Soul, Have us a Spirit
God is Morality, Gave us Conscience and Passion
3 Different Theories for Origin of Man’s Soul
Preexistence Theory - each man receives his soul from a previous existence in the past
Creationist Theory - each soul is a special and immediate creation which enters the fetus early in its development
Traducian Theory - both body and soul are passed on through natural generation (genetics)
Soul’s 4 Basic Characteristics (Role it Plays in Moral Situations)

5 Different Theories for Adam’s Effect of Sin on Posterity
Liberal Position - story is a Hebrew legend and thus has no impact at all
Pelagian Position - because God imputes to a man only those sins which he personally commits, Adam’s sin affected only himself. The only impact on posterity was that of a bad example
Arminian Position - Adam’s sin weakened the will of his descendants to remain sinless, but did not destroy the possibility
Augustinian Position - as seminally present in Adam, all his descendants were participants with him in his sin. Thus, God holds all men guilty because all men are guilty
Federal Position - as the federal head or representative of all mankind, his sin was charged not only to him but to all he represented as well
