PAS
Pink - glycogen, neutral and weakly acid mucins, collagen, basement membrane
Nuclei - blue
PAS/D
Same as PAS however, glycogen has been digested by the diastase and is therefore absent
Often used as a control for PAS
PAS/Alcian Blue
Blue - acid mucins
Pink - neutral mucins
Nuclei - pale blue
Alcian Blue/VG
Turquoise - acid mucins
Red - collagen
Muscle and RBCs - yellow
Toluidine Blue
Dark blue - H.pylori organisms
Pale blue - background
Picro-Mallory
Blue - collagen
Red - fibrin
Yellow - RBCs
Blue/black - nuclei
Periodic Acid Methenamine Silver
Used for basement membranes
Black - basement membranes, reticular fibres
Lime green - nucleus and background
Oil Red O
Red - triglycerides
Nuclei - blue
