Microsystem
The environment in which individuals deal with family, friends, and schools. It consists of an immediate neighborhood in a child’s life.
Mesosystem
The system that links various Microsystems. It provides the overlap that occurs in our lives when one area of our experience intertwined with another.
Exosystem
The external environment that influences our lives. We usually have very little control over this.
Macrosystem
This is the overarching culture in which a child lives.
Chronosystem
The sequence of sociohistoric developments that occur during a child’s life.
TEKS
State standards that guide what content we teach.
Focus
Focuses the students on the learning objective.
Learning objective
Identifies what is to be learned by the end of the lesson.
Relevance
Explains why it is important to accomplish the objective.
Direct Instruction
Gives student information, sources, and skills they will need to accomplish the objective.
Modeling
Shows the process or product of what students are learning.
Check for understanding
Allows the teacher to informally verify if the student understands what they are learning throughout the lesson.
Guided Practice
Allows the students time to try the new learning under teacher guidance.
Closure
Allows students time to mentally summarize and internalize the new learning.
Independent Practice.
Students try new learning on their own to develop fluency.
Assessment
Links back to the objective; formal or informal; allows students to show individual mastery of the objective.

Delta
Land made of soil left behind as a river drains into a larger body of water.
Fault
The boarder between two of the plates that make up the Earth’s crust.
Gulf
Part of an ocean that extends into the land. Larger than a bay.
Harbor
A sheltered place along a coast where boats dock safely.
Island
A body of land completely surrounded by water.
Mesa
A hill with a flat top, smaller than a plateau.
Mouth
The place where a river empties into a larger body of water.
Peninsula
A body of land nearly surrounded by water.
Plain
A large area of nearly flat land.
Plateau
A high, flat area that rises steeply above the surrounding land.
Port
A place where ships load and unload their goods.
Reservoir
A natural or artificial lake used to store water.
Source
The starting point of a river.
Valley
An area of low land between hills or mountains.
Urban
A big city or town. Crowded with skyscrapers. Downtown.
Suburban
Places outside of the city. People living here often commute to big cities.
Rural
Farm land. Less populated. More space between homes and most people own large amounts of land.
