Test #2 Flashcards
When do we measure VO2 Max?
- Oxygen uptake plateaus
- HR does NOT increase with increasing intensity
- RPE>17
When is VO2 peak measured?
When the vo2 Max test is terminated prior to getting the required measurements.
Difference between predicted Max HR and resting HR
Heart rate reserve
Not a very accurate way of measuring intensity
HR method
Difference between exercise training and physical activity
PA- any bodily movement resulting in energy expenditure
EX- planned, structured, repetitive movements that results in physical fitness
If psychologic capacity is taxed by training, a stimulus occurs allowing the exercise within a certain range
Adaptation
Stopping or lessening training resulting in a decrease of psychologic capacity
Detraining
Principle: Body’s response and adaptations to exercise are specific to type of exercise and muscle group involved
Specificity of training principle
Principle: psychological systems of body must be taxed using loads that are greater than those individual is accustomed to
Overload principle
Principle: training volume or intensity must be progressively increased to stimulate further improvement
Principle of progression
Those with low initial physical fitness values will show greater relative gains and a faster rate of improvement to exercise training than those with average or high fitness levels
Initial values principle
Principle: genetic ceiling is approached, rate of improvement slows and eventually levels out
Principle of diminishing returns
FITT for cardio
F- 3-5 days/ week
I- 40-60% HRR or VO2R
T- 20-60 mins
T- Rhythmic, large muscle groups
Product of FIT
VOLUME
Used to estimate gross energy expenditure for individuals Rx
