Oral stage- to 1.5 years– pleasures centers around mouth.
Anal stage- 1.5-3–focuses on anus
Phalic stage-3-6–focuses on genitals
_________6-puberty- suppresses sexual desires.
Freudian fixation
Over or under gratification on any stage can cause fixation.
Eriksons Phychsocial
Development influenced by common cultural demand.
Each stage requires solution to a crisis
Healthy development requires favorable ratio of positive to negative experiences.
Trust vs mistrust
Birth-1
Learn to trust or mistrust depending on degree and regularity of love and care and affection provided by parents or caregivers
Autonomy vs shame and doubt
1-3 yrs
Learn to express will and independence to excersise some control and to make choices. If not they experience sham and doubt.
Initiative vs guilt
3-6 yrs
Children begin to initiate activities and undergo taskand to develop Motor and other ability. If not allowed to initiate or made to feel stupid or like a nuisance they will develop guilt.
Industry versus inferiority
Six years to puberty
children develop industriousness and feel pride in accomplishing tasks andmaking and doing things. If not encouraged or rebuffed by teachers and parents they may develop a sense of inferiority
Identity versus role confusion
Adolescents
Adolescents must transition from childhood to adult hood Establish identity and develop a sense of self. And consider a future occupational identity. Otherwise role confusion can result
Intimacy versus isolation
Young adulthood
Young adults must develop intimacyability to care for and share and commit themselves to another personavoiding intimacy results in isolation and loneliness
Ego integrity versus despair
Adulthood
Individuals review their life and if they are satisfied they experience ego integrity. And feel a sense of accomplishment. If dissatisfied they may sink into depression
