What is anthrax
Anthrax is a bacterial infection caused by Bacillus anthracis
CHF
•Primary issue: Heart pumping inefficiency.
•Symptoms: Shortness of breath, fatigue, fluid retention (edema), and coughing.
COPD
•Primary issue: Chronic inflammation obstructing airflow in the lungs.
•Symptoms: Shortness of breath, chronic cough, wheezing.
Cheyne stokes
• Characteristics: Gradual increase and decrease in depth and rate of breathing, with periods of apnea.
•Causes: Heart failure, neurological conditions.
Kussmal
•Characteristics: Deep, labored breathing.
•Causes: Diabetic ketoacidosis, metabolic acidosis.
Left side heart failure
Symptoms: Shortness of breath, fatigue, fluid retention (edema) in the lungs, causing pulmonary congestion.
Causes: Coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, heart attack.
Right side heart failure
Symptoms: Swelling in the legs and abdomen due to fluid retention, enlarged liver, and discomfort in the right upper abdomen.
Causes: Left-sided heart failure, lung disease (which puts strain on the right side).
Early shock
Tachycardia, tachypnea, pale/cool skin, weak pulse, anxiety/restlessness, altered mental status
Compensated shock
Tachycardia, tachypnea, peripheral vasoconstriction
Distributed shock
Widespread vasodilation
Systole
When the heart contracts, pumping blood to the body
Primary blast injuries
Caused by the direct effects of the blast wave on body tissues
Secondary blast injuries
Caused by fragmentation
