A

Sodium bicarbonate, calcium salt (tums)

Interact with acid at the chemical level to neutralize them

Used for any condition that can be exasperated by electrolyte imbalance G.I. obstruction

Adverse affects, relate to their effects on acid, base levels and electrolytes rebound acidity, alkalosis, hypercalcemia, constipation, or diarrhea, hypophosohatemia

Affects the absorption of many other drugs

Bulk stimulants

A

Magnesium citrate (Citrate of magnesia), lactulose (constilac), polyethylene glycol (miralax)

Increase motility by increasing size of fico material which will increase fluid in the G.I. tract Cosmore stretch on G.I. tract, stimulate local stretch, receptors and activate local G.I. activity
