Test 2 Flashcards
Geocoding
Converts street addresses into features on a map
XY data
A base layer with a projection file to use as a reference Latitude and Longitude features
Spatial analysis
A way of looking at something that are not seen on map like why something is the way it is
Querying
basic analytic operation using GIS to answer questions
Buffering
Constructs polygon areas within a specified distance of features
Overlay
Basic function that examines spatial coincidence of features usually involving intersection and dissolve
Descriptive stats
This is the spatial equivalent to common statistics such as mean and standard dev
Nearest neighbor index
an index value based on the average distance from each feature to its nearest neighboring feature
K-means
an iterative clustering algorithm that finds geographic concentrations in point features and determines their center points
Moran’s I index
measures similarity among feature attributes relative to feature locations
Geoprocessing
is the processing of geographic info using breaking aggregating and creating
Intersect tool
parts of all features that overlap are written into a new feature class
Union
all features that overlap are combined into one
append
Combines feature classes
Erase
erases all parts of all input features that overlap with the erase dataset polygon features
