What should an instructor do prior to starting a lesson?
Make sure you have all equipment and supplies and that it is working properly

No, an instructor who is thoroughly prepared or who has made the presentation before can usually speak effectively without notes.

The goal is to draw out what the student know by asking question

Simple yet sound principle that we learn by doing

Yes, students should have no doubt how well they did at the end

No If it is: - Honest - objective - constructive -comprehensive
Are trick questions a good tool to use?
No, they will cause the student to feel as if he/she are in a battle of wits with the instructor.
What is the outcome if trick questions are used?
The whole significance of the subject of instruction will be lost
What is the purpose of an evaluation?
So the student can know:
- how well they are doing in the course
- have measured amount of learning and what is being learned
- and how well they learned it
What type of evaluations are there?
- oral quizzes
- written test
- performance test
What happens if the student asks a question that the instructor doesn’t know the answer to?
Say “I don’t know”, and go look up the answer
What are good criteria for usability of a test?
- Charts and illustrations are appropriate
- Test is printed in right type face
- Wide range of scores are possible
- The inclusion of all levels of difficulties are covered
What is required on a pre-solo test?
- It is not for a specific grade but rather determine readiness of student for solo
- Supply type questions are easiest to determine students grasp of concept
- Must keep on file for 3 years

What is a temperature inversion?
A change in temperature in which the air gets warmer as the altitude increases
When does a surface inversion occur?
- When terrestrial radiation on a clear night cools the surface of the land and lowers the temperature of the air immediately above the surface.
- The air temperature increases with altitude for a few hundred feet.
When does a temperature inversion aloft occur?
when a current of warm air aloft overruns cold air near the surface
What happens if you get a low level temperature inversion?
Fog, smoke, low clouds, and other restrictions to visibility can get trapped
