Test 2 Flashcards
1
Q
4 reasons a STAR network is better suited
A
- It is simple to add a new node
- If one node or cable is broken, the others are unaffected
- Data ISN’T transmitted to every computer so there are LESS DATA COLLISIONS compared to other topologies
- SOFTWARE and BACKUPS can be dealt with CENTRALLY
2
Q
3 ways to improve security on a network
A
- ENCRYPTION (intercepted data is unreadable without key and is USELESS)
- ANTI-MALWARE software protect from VIRUSES
- NETWORK POLICY to define ACCEPTABLE USE (eg no USBs)
3
Q
3 security problems and solutions
A
- Downloading MALWARE from internet -> BLOCKING poeple from accesssing INSECURE websites
- Leaving door open to office -> LOCKING doors to room with COMPUTERS
- Taking SENSITIVE data home on USB sticks -> blocking USB ports or defining this is ACCEPTABLE USE documents
4
Q
How could fragmentation occur on an ordering system?
A
- Orders SAVED and then DELETED
- New orders’ files are SAVED by OS, which could be LARGER than GAPS left
- Order files become split up
5
Q
How does defragmentation speed up computers?
A
- FIles on hard dick are moved to be stored together
- And empty spaces on hard disk are COLLECTED togher to PREVENT further fragmentation
- Read/write doens’t have to move bacl and forth to access data as many times, SPEEDING up data access
6
Q
Effects of always upgrading smartphones
A
- PARENTS feel under pressure from CHILDREN who feel under pressure from PEERS
- -> phones are often expensive
- -> SOCIAL = contributing to digital divide - INCENTIVISES technology companies to create less DURABLE phones so they need to be REPLACED more
- Phones are often not REPLACABLE or RECYCLABLE –> A lot of E-Waste (even though still works)
- Leads to E-Waste being sent to lower income countries + toxic chemicals seep into ground and cause pollution
