Test Flashcards
What are the stages of cell cycle
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokenesis.
What happens in interphase
Makes a copy of DNA and cell grows so it can make 2 cells.
What happens in prophase
DNA condenses into chromosomes, spindle fibers form, and Nuclear membrane breaks down
What happens in metaphase
Chromosomes attach to spindle fibers and chromosomes move to the middle of the cell
What happens in anaphase
Chromosomes are pulled by fibers to opposite ends of the cell and cell stretches out
What happens in telophase
Nuclear membranes form, fibers disappeared, and cell is pinched in the middle
What happens in cytokinesis
The cell splits into two daughter cells and each daughter cell ends up with an identical set of chromosomes.
What are the stages of mitosis
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
What are the types of mutations
Substitution, insertion, deletion
What is the function of DNA
Instructions to make proteins
What is DNA made of
Sugar Phosphate backbones and nitrogenous bases
How is DNA stored
Tightly wound and stored as chromosomes
What does the Mrna do
Copies the instructions from the DNA to make a protein and then take it out into the cytoplasm
What does the ribosome do
It is in the cytoplasm and the Mrna attaches to it and the ribosome helps assemble the amino acids in the correct order to make the protein.
What is the Trna
The transfer RNA brings amino acids to the ribosome according to the sequence on the Mrna
