What is a phrase?
Two or more words which join together in a specific structure to take the place of a slot in a sentence.
How many phrases are there & what are they?
- Descriptive
- Demonstrative
- Possessive
- Conjuctive
- Adverbial - Jar/Majroor and Mudaf/MIlayhi
What are the iraabs of the 1st part of the phrases?
1st part does not have a particular iraab it depends on the position in the sentence, can be Marfoo, mansion, majroor.
What’s the iraab of the 2nd part of a phrase?
2nd part follows first except for mudaf ilayhi and majroor
What number and gender should the 2nd part of the phrase be?
Descriptive & Demonstrative match in DING.
Possessive & conjunctive are independent in DNG
What is the differentiating factor between mubtada/kobor and mawsuf/sifa?
M/K match in ING
M/S match in DING
What is the difference between mawsuf/sifah and ismul-ishara/musharun ilayhi?
Mawsuf can be any ism
Ismul ishara fixed (x12) ie هذا.
How is the adverbial phrase different to other phrases?
It can only take 2 slots in a sentence, the kobor in a ismiya sentence or a zarf in a fi’liya sentence.
The other phrases can take any slot ie
Mubtada, fa’il etc
What is a murab?
A word/ism which shows iraab changes due to its position in a sentence.
What is a mabni?
A word/ism which does not show iraab changes (في محال) despite its position in a sentence.
Which word must always be ma’rifah?
Mubtada
Which word must always have an ال?
Musharun ilayhi
