Which country helped the colonies win the war against England?
France
Tax
Money that is paid to the government to that the government can pay for services for the citizens. Examples: paying soldiers, taking care of roads, building schools, paying police, fire and school employees.
Boston Tea Party
A group of men dressed as Native Americans and dumped crates of tea overboard ships in Boston Harbor as a protest on the Taxes on tea.
The Constitution
A documen that sets up the plan for government and the rules for a country, city or state.
Stamp Act
A tax on all paper goods sold in the colonies.
Why did King George and Parliament place taxes on the colonist?
To pay for the French and Indian War and to pay for protection for the colonists.
Intolerable Acts
These laws wee passed after the Boston Tea Party as a punishment for the colonists. They included the Boston Port Act that closed Boston Harbor forcing colonists to pay for the destroyed tea, ad the Quartering Act forcing colonists to house and feed the British Soldiers for free.
Boycott
To refuse to by a product or support a business. This is a form of protest.
The Bill of Rights
The first 10 Amendments (changes) to the constitution. These state the rights of freedoms of US citizens.

A group of colonist heckling British soldiers and throwing snowballs at them. The British soldiers fired into the crowd killing 5 colonists and injuring 6.
Revolution
When a government is suddenly changed. It usually begins with citizens fighting back against rules their government has in place and often involves war.
John Hancock
A member of the Sons of Liberty and president of the Continental Congress and the first to sign the Declaration of Independence.
Samuel Adams
Leader of the Patriots who helped to plan the Boston Tea Party and was a member of the Continental Congress.
Crispus Attucks
A freed slave who was the first person killed as a result of the Boston Massacre.
Representative
A person who is elected to speak for a person or group of people in government.
