Test 1 Review Flashcards
What is overcurrent?
Too much current
3 types of overcurrent
Short circuit, overload, and ground fault
What does overload mean?
Too much current in a circuit
What does short circuit mean?
A shorter unintended pathway for current
What does ground fault mean?
When electricity strays to an unintended pathway in the ground
What is a red/black wire?
Hot/Ungrounded
What is a white wire?
Neutral/Gorunded
What is a bare/green wire?
Grounding/Ground
What does the ungrounding (red/black) conductor do?
Supply voltage and carry current
What does the grounded (white) conductor do?
Allows current to return to its source
What does the grounding (green/bare) conductor do?
Grounds and bonds the system
What does the term grounding mean?
Connects electricity back to earth
What does the term bonding mean?
Connects the non-current-carrying parts of electrical equipment to the service equipment
What are fish tapes used for?
Pulling a conductor through a raceway
Most common type of ladder?
Stepladder
What is the point of extension ladders?
Allows you to get higher up
Do you have to tie extension ladders down?
Yes
What is the ratio that you’re supposed to have extension ladders at?
4:1
What are ladders typically made of?
Fiberglass
What are hydraulic knock out sets used for?
knock out big holes in boxes
What is a steel stud punch used for?
Punching holes in steel studs
What do we use a pie knife for?
Cutting large cables
What is an SDS hammer drill used for?
Drilling holes in tile/concrete
1/2” drill vs hammer drill
Reg. hammer drill is longer than reg. drill
Masonary bits
Dull tip, don’t have indents
Core drill
Cuts clean and large holes in concrete
Angle drill
Allows you to get into small spots/angles
Hole hog
Puts holes in wood (lots of torque)
Long tom
Allows you to drill holes in wood without having to use ladder
Keyed chuck
Used on high torque drills
Keyless chuck
Used on less torque drills
Auger bits
Put holes in wood (most common)
