Melanoma
Characteristic:
“stuck-on”, head, neck, back, shoulders, warty
Association:
Sign of Leser-Trelat, sudden, explosive: adenocarcinoma
Management:
Cosmetic: curette, electrodessication, etc.
Seborrheic Keratosis
Characteristic: Dark skin, hands/feet/nails Association: Hutchinson’s sign (pigment spreading) Management: Poor prognosis; aggressive removal
Acral Lentiginous Melanoma
Characteristic: Dark skin, malar, etc. 2mm papules Association: Cosmetic. Treatmt may scar, pigment Management: Leave alone, or remove as above
Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra
Characteristic:
Junctional: dark, macular
Compound, lighter papular, Dermal: soft, mobile ?hair
Association:
Only a very small percentage become malignant;
Management:
Observe for A,B,C,D,E
Nevus/Nevi
Characteristic: Dimple Sign Association: Distinguish from melanoma Management: Cosmetic; currette, electrodessication
Dermatofibroma
Characteristic: Usually darker skin, dermal repair Association: Post-acne and others Management: Sunscreen, chemical peel, niacinamide topical
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
Characteristic:
Café au Lait patches, flexor freckling, nodules w/ button-holing
Association:
Scoliosis, renal artery narrowing, etc.
Management:
integrate, add supportive: core stabilization, blood pressure screening..
Neurofibromatosis
Characteristic:
Can be dark colored, soft, in flexor zones
Association:
DM, metab. syndr, endocrinopathy, obesity, menopause
Management:
Remove with shears, attend to predisposer
Skin tags/acrochordons(can also be skin colored
