Test 1 Flashcards
How to find a limit given a value?
Direct Substitute if possible
What to do if it does not factor?
Look for Conjugate Rule if it is 0/0
If it is R/0 then approaches ∞ or -∞, do one sided limits of the value and plug in close to that value to test if - or +
How to find limits involving infinity?
Divide the numerator and denominator by the highest power in the denominator, if it is R/x^r then it = 0
How to find vertical asymptotes?
Set denom. = 0 and solve. Use those points and evaluate the limit of it. If it is ∞ or -∞, then it is an asymptote
Note: if it makes the denom. =0, then evaluate using one-sided limits and sign change
How to find horizontal asymptotes?
Start by finding the limits of ∞ or -∞. If the limits are equal, then there is a horizontal asymptote
