Why is it important to plan for a dance class?
keeping the end in mind, being able to adapt to the needs of individual class
What are the main four things every dance class should include?
- Warm up(a way to gather) 2. skill/foundations 3. Develop artistry 4. Cool down
What are some benefits to a well- planned class?
has a logical way the class develops. ( if lots of jumps and leaps planned then in warm up would do exercises to help lead up to that)
After taking the time to plan out your dance class, what is important to always remember?
TO be Flexable!
What are the pros and cons of demonstrating in class?
Pro- can demonstrate rhythm and make connection between their movement and yours. Con- Dancing too much can result in not giving good feedback . or students become reliant on teacher.
What can happen if we demonstrate too much?
Students can become reliant on teacher
What are some things to remember when dealing with beginners, intermediate, advance, company dancers?
beginners- basics, intermediate- repetition, advanced- constantly challenged, company - depends on needs. Overall Expectations are the SAME for all students.
Discuss dance education in the 21st century.
Has changed from a trained dancer to a whole dancer. now students need the ability to do more than a perfect routine.
What there the 4 important tolls to develop artistry and physical mastery?
Conceptual Understanding- base technical goals on self anatomical structure.
Perceptual Awareness- Discern the feeling of the dance.
Lerner- Centered- encourages thinking dancers to assume responsibility
Strong sense of self- Create dancers own artistry
What is anatomical knowledge and how can it serve us?
“the whole body mindset” inside movement referring to we all move differently and Reduces risk of injury.

Most students studying dance in high Ed are experienced dance performers in one or more dance forms, and movie teachers. What problems could this cause?
Not able to articulate or breakdown movement. Great at their genre but never taught.
What are the General steps to this teaching Taxonomy?
Taxonomy- putting groups /order into a classification.

- Automaticity: the end of a beginning new dance movement before moving on.

It limits what you teach an the creativity you give yourself. Not allowing self expression to be taught.
