the shape of the melody
Phrase
a shorter section of a melody. Commas and punctuation are assumed
Cadence
a short section of music that helps our ear know that a melody or phrase is about to end
Chord
more than one pitch, sounded at the same time
Harmony
Chords create Harmony
Dynamics
how loudly or softly a sound is being played
Texture
3 musical textures: Monophony, Homophony, Polyphony
Monophony
Everyone who’s playing is playing the same melody at the same time
Homophony
Similar to Monophony, but are playing in harmony with each other (different pitches)
Polyphony
When people are singing or playing in different pitches
Beat
the pulse that makes up a given works
Tempo
Speed of which a piece of music goes
Meter
A grouping of beats into regular repeating patterns
Triple meter
3 beats per cycle
Duple Meter
2 or 4 beats per cycle
