Why was it Called Victorian England?
Victorian England was referring to a period in history in England , Scotland, Wales and Ireland during the long reign of Queen Victoria. (1837-1901)
How was society structured in the Victorian England.
- It was structured along the class lines.
- There was burdensome poverty.
- There were no universal voting rights.
How was the Economic and political powers structured?
The minority or the more privilaged classes had all the power where as the poor had no power
What are The submerged 10th
This is the Mob of whom booth referred to as the submerged 10th of whom suffered the most and had no power to change their situation
What was the influence of the industrial revolution on Victorian England?
People and Jobs were replaced by machines.
Farmers were not needed.
The Class system was strengthened- in other words the rich become richer and the poor become poorer.
How is it suggested that England was different than a similarly structured France?
John Wesley prevented an uprising in the poorer and working classes unlike France of whom had a violent revolution.
What were influences of Victorian England?

created urbanization and decreased agriculture - The Wesleyan Revival:
Spiritual and holiness revival for the working class.
What are the problems with urbanization?
- The Poor started flooding the cities in search of jobs which would give them more income. which did not work.
- Small towns became overcrowded because of factories and were full of problems.
- Housing and sanitation were inadequate.
- Diseases because of the sanitation and poor diet
- Families were forced into sending their children to work.
What is the Mid Victorian Church? What was their view of the poor?
- It was the Church the British established as the national church which the Queen and her archbishops were the head of.
- The poor were not welcome and due to their social status, their spiritual status was not even looked at.
How was the Wesleyan revival sparked again and what was the churches reaction?
The revival began in 1859 and spread throughout the land. England wanted no part with the poor in the church at this time.
What was the influence of the hurricane movement?
Wealthy and influential Evangelicals used their political and social authority to reform bills
- They finally made and went against Child labor and poor working conditions.
- Provided universal manhood suffrage and brought an end to the slave trade.
During this Era what did Christians Begin?
Non- Denominational home missionary groups.
What did the Non-denominational home missionary groups work among? And how did this influence the Booths?
- They worked with the poor in the great cities trying to bring physical help as well as spiritual.
- Mrs Booth was drawn to one group that tried to help girls caught in prostitution, and it one group that invited William booth to speak in their open air meeting in east London.

William Booth was Born in 1829 in Nottingham, England
Describe the Family life/ Parents of William Booth.
His Father was described as an illiterate speculative builder. (in other words you would not trust him to build your house) By trade he was a pawnbroker.
His mother Was Religious Thus he had a religious upbringing.
His father died when he was young so he had to take a job as a pawnbroker
When was Booth Converted
He was converted at the age of 15 and he made a complete separateness from the world. It was at Broad St. Wesley Chapel Where the Holy Spirit Spoke to his heart.

His Pawnbroking Apprenticeship.
