17
Q

What are the 3 parts of a paradigm?

A

Core Constructs: Area of expertise = similar to domain of concern. =Practice Framework

Focal Viewpoints: We all have a viewpoint that we all agree with. A commonly shared viewpoint in the field.

Integrating Values: We hold values to our profession. Similar to Mosey’s Ethical Code!!

18
Q

What is a basic scientific theory and when is it used?

A

Basic Scientific Inquiry: ——> People Developing Theories

For the people that are developing theories.

19
Q

What is Applied Scientific Theory

A

Applied Scientific Inquiry —–> People Developing Frames of Reference

Develop frames of reference.

20
Q

What is the Top-Bottom Approach?

A

Find out who they are and what they like to do. THEN find out what is keeping them from doing it.

21
Q

What is the Bottom-Up Approach?

A

Find out what is the problem. (Ex: the person has a missing appendage) they can’t use their arm. THEN find out why they want to use their arm!

22
Q

Explain the difference between purposeful activity and occupation

A

“Purposeful activity refers to goal-direered behaviors or tasks … that the individual considers meaningful” Purposeful activities have personal meaning combined with a goal-directed quality and are encompassed within occupations but may not be based on occupation.

An occupation is the daily life activities in which people engage.

23
Q

Florence Clark says….

A

We are a discipline because we develop our own theories. We are a discipline because we are our own science. The science of occupation. We need to do more of our own research.

24
Q

What are the 4 levels of activity in Occupation Based Intervention?

A
  • Adjunctive: ex: passive ROM, heat pack,
  • Enabling: Preparatory Activities
    • Not occupation based or purposeful but gets them ready to participate in activity.
  • Simulated activities. (peg-boards, theraputty)
    • Prepares them to do purposeful and then occupation.
  • Purposeful: Have a purpose but may not be based in an occupation that is meaningful.
  • Occupational: Actually participating in the occupation.
25
Q

What three variables according to PEO Model make up Occupational Performance?

A

Occupation

Person

Environment

26
Q

What are the advantages to the PEO model?

A
  • Simple and easy to understand
  • Promoting our field and expertise in the community
  • Applies to many individuals, groups and populations.
27
Q

What are the disadvantages of the PEO Model?

A
  • Doesn’t give guideline for practice
  • Limited research
28
Q

What was the PEO model evolved into by Christiansen and Baum?

A

PEOP

29
Q

What does the PEOP model focus on?

A
  • Highlights the complexity of person-occupation-environment relationships and it defines Occupational Performance as the outcome of this three tier transaction.

Person, Environment, Occupation, Performance

30
Q

What are assumptions made by the PEOP model?

A
  1. People are motivated to explore their world and master it.
  2. Success helps people to feel good. This motivates them to face new challenges with greater confidence.
31
Q

What are the 4 constructs of the PEOP model?

A

Person

Environment

Occupation

Performance

32
Q

What makes up the person according to the PEOP model?

A

Made up of a series of intrinsic factors that compose one’s set of skills.

  • Spiritual,
  • Neurobehavioral
  • Psychological
  • Physiological
  • Cognitive
33
Q

What makes up the environment construct in the PEOP model?

A

Always impacted by the extrinsic characteristics of the environment in which it occurs.

  • Built
  • Natural
  • Cultural
  • Societal
  • Social interaction
  • Economic
34
Q

What makes up the occupation construct in the PEOP model? (Heirarchy of Occupation)

A
  1. Roles
  2. Occupation
  3. Tasks
  4. Actions
  5. Abilities
35
Q

How does the MOP define the Person, 4 things that make up the person?

A

Affective

Cognitive

Physical

Spiritual

36
Q

What 5 things that makes up the environment according to the MOP?

A

Cultural

Social

Institutional

Physical

Socioeconomic

37
Q

What 3 things make up the Occupation according to the MOP?

A

Self-Care

Productivity

Leisure

38
Q

What is the nuclear problem according to the MOP?

A

Threatens something the client considers essential for a meaningful life.

39
Q

What is the COPM?

A

It’s a client-centered assessment in the MOP. Assesses Productivity, Self-Care, and Leisure.

40
Q

What does Ann Mosey say?

A

We are a profession because we pull from theories in other areas.

OT is an Art and Science

41
Q

Why do we use FOM in OT?

A

It narrows the scope of treatment.

It is a link betwen practice and theory.
