Test 1 Flashcards
What is CNC Machining
a manufacturing method involving the use of preprogrammed to automate the control, motion, and precision of machine tools
What is NC Machining
utilizes coded instructions found on physical tapes inserted into the machine to automatically control tools
What is DNC machining
uses a computer to remotely control numerous machine tools. Direct Numerical Control
What is milling
uses a rotating tool on a spindle to cut stationary material. Has a rectangular workpiece
What is wire EDM
a device that utilizes an electrical discharge two electrodes on a thin wire that cuts through hard material
What is a water jet tool in CNC
a device that utilizes a high-pressure pump to make cuts in a material
What is APT
Automatically Programmed Tool: A high-level programming language developed by MIT to define and run toolpaths on CNC machines
What is a Netshape production
a manufacturing method that uses very precise dimensions and tolerance in the process to get as close to the final shape as desired
What are the three disadvantages of CNC
- The initial cost can be high as machines typically have a minimum price of 10,000 $ 2. Needs a trained operator with programming skills to function properly 3. The many intricate and complex parts of the CNC machine require constant attention and heavy maintenance including repairs, lubrication, and cleaning.
What is turning
a process in which a workpiece rotates while a non rotating cutting tool removes material from it
What is the right hand rule
a way to remember the axis of CNC machine. your middle finger is the z-axis, index finger is y-axis, and thumb is x-axis
where is the PRZ in turning operations
outer surface in the center of the billet shape
where is PRZ in milling operations
lower left hand corner of the top surface
what is MRZ
Machine Reference Zero. the origin on the machine
what is PRZ
Part Reference Zero. origin on a part or workpiece
How many axis are in milling operations
3
How many axis in turning operations
2
Why should you add a command line
allows for precise control over machining operations. is industry standard
what is a good increment for block numbers
- You can add the numbers in between each block number
what is required at the end of a program
put the M05 command. this is spindle off
What is M03
turn spindle on
What is M05
turn spindle off
what is M30
end of program and reset
When is coolant required
it is required on metal materials. It is not required on soft materials
