Axis I-V
What is Axis I?
collection of signs and symptoms that together constitute a particular disorder or a condition that may be a focus of treatment.
**Can treat with Medication
What is Axis II?
Personality disorders and mental retardation
What is Axis III?
general medical conditions believed to be relevant to the mental disorder in question
**existing medical conditions
What is Axis IV?
reporting psychosocial and environmental problems that may affect the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of a mental disorder
**Contributing factors: poor, no parental support

Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF)

What are Freud’s three levels of consciousness?

What is Id?
primitive, pleasure seeking part of our personalities that lurks in the unconscious mind
What is Ego?
our sense of self and acts as an intermediary b/ the id and the world by using ego defense mechanisms such as repression, denial and rationalization
What is superego?
our conscience and is greatly influenced by our parents or caregivers moral and ethical stances
