Test 1 Flashcards
What is chemistry?
The study of matter and how it changes
What are the three (3) states of matter?
Solid, Liquid and Gas
What is melting
The change of state from solid to liquid
What is freezing?
The change of state from liquid to solid
What is boiling\evaporation?
The change of state from liquid to gas
What is condensation?
The change of state from gas to liquid.
The change of state from gas to liquid.
The idea that all matter is made up of tiny particles.
How are particles arranged in a solid?
Tightly packed and vibrating in place.
How are particles arranged in a liquid?
More spread out and able to move around.
How are particles arranged in a gas?
Far apart and moving quickly in all directions
What is the water cycle?
The continuous movement of water between the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere.
What is evaporation?
The process of water changing from liquid to gas (water vapor).
What is condensation?
The process of water vapor cooling and changing back to liquid, forming clouds.
What is precipitation?
Water falling back to Earth as rain, snow, or hail.
What is collection/runoff?
Water gathering in rivers, lakes, and oceans.
