the rules and regulations made and enforced by government that regulate the conduct of people within society
Jurisprudence
the science or philosophy of law
Justice
fairness, moral rightness, the proper administration of the law; and the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals under the law
Rules
are made by private parties (companies, school , caregivers)
Values of Law/ goals 1-4
- protecting basic human rights
- promoting fairness
- helping resolve conflicts.
- promoting order and stability
moral values
addresses issues of right and wrong (unlawful taking or another’s property w/ the intent to steal it)
environmental values
regulates the impact of human activities on the environment (e.g. air, water, protection of animals and plants)
social values
issues important to society (respect, harassment)
political values
reflect the relationship between government and individuals (e.g. voting)
Criminal Law
regulates public conduct and sets out duties owed to society. criminal cases are considered crimes against society and usually end in jail or prison time
Civil Law
