Test #1 Flashcards
4(6) aspects (functions) of KD Essence
- growth, reproduction, development
- basis for kidney qi; necessary to transform KD-yin into KD-qi through warming action of KD-yang
- produces marrow
- basis for constitutional strength
- interacts with qi and blood
- as basis for 3 treasures: qi, essence/jing, shen/mind
vital substances/functions: Qi
vitalizes, moves, propels, warms, YANG in nature
vital substances/functions: Blood/Body fluids
nourishes, moistens, sustains, has form, YIN in nature
vital substances/functions: Essence/Jing
basis of development and reproduction, foundation of functional activities, surplus potential of body, both YIN and YANG
3 types of essence
- pre-heaven (prenatal) sexual energies of parents form pre-H essence
- post-H essence produced by products of digestion (St + Sp)
- K-E combination of pre-H and post-H
inter-dependence of yin-yang -> TCM
- yang organs depend on yin for nourishment deriving from Blood and Essence stored by yin organs
- yin organs depend of yang to produce Qi and Blood from transformation of food
(1) opposition of yin-yang -> TCM
fire of the gate of life from KD
water origin also KD
balance of fire/water is fundamental
water: moisten and cool all physiological functions
fire: keeps alive and stokes metabolic processes, assist Ht in housing Shen, warmth to Sp (transform, transport), stimulate SI (separation)
5 main aspects of the yin/yang interrelationship
- opposition: relative, not absolute
- interdependence: one cannot exist w/o other
- mutual consuming: dynamic balance, continuous adjustment (*graph)
- inter-transformation: not static, @ certain stage of development, internal/external conditions and time
- infinite divisibility
4 aspects of yin/yang (tai ji)
- cyclical movement (day/night)
- transformation (water/vapor)
- body structure: exterior (protects), interior (nourishes)
- function (yang), structure (yin) of organs
yin/yang aspects of an organ
yin: structure of an organ and Blood, essence and fluids contained within
yang: functional activity
Liver (yin organ): stores Blood (yin), controls flow of Qi (yang)
6 (original yuan) Qi functions
- motive force
- Basis of KD qi
- facilitates transformation of qi
- conduit for TW
- facilitates transformation of Blood
- comes out at source points
4 states of yin/yang imbalance
empty heat = weakness of Yin is apparent excess of Yang
empty cold =
full heat =
full cold = preponderance of Yin creates Yang decrease, damages Yang
Qi disorders
- Deficiency, weakness (Lu, St)
- Sinking (prolapse)
- Stagnant (dull pain)
- Rebellious (moving in opposite direction - indigestion)
3 Treasures
Essence (Jing - densest), Mind (Shen), Qi
True (Zhen) Qi = 2 forms
Nutritive (Ying), and Defensive (Wei)
